Iconic Norfolk Event Goes Electric
Local agricultural event The Royal Norfolk Show chose electric UTVs for both event set up and on-site transport at this year’s show; the first since the pandemic!
As a well-known and prestigious event, The Royal Norfolk Show which takes place not far from Electric Wheels HQ at The Norfolk Showground was finally back this year. Stretching over 150 acres the showground hosted a footfall of approximately 90,000 over the course of the two-days. With such volumes of visitors and expanse of space to cover, organisers required reliable, efficient, and quiet transportation for both set up and to transport guests during the event days.
The Beast, The HiSun Sector 5kW, The Nipper and The Runner were all selected from the Electric Wheels’ portfolio and set to work to provide the level of efficiency needed to help maintain the smooth running at the event.
Using Electric UTVs For Event Set-up
As with all large-scale events, setting up takes careful planning and implementation. All-terrain buggies and utility vehicles can help with moving product and materials through all the stages of set-up, general staging, go-live and take-down.
For the showground, the team had a selection of electric utility vehicles for over two weeks to help carry tools and equipment for the event set up as well as to travel between each area during construction and break-down. The vehicles included five Nippers, three HiSun Sector 5kWs, a four-seat Rider, and a four-seat Beast.
Event Hire Vehicles for Head Stewards, Staff, and VIPs
The size of the event and the terrain can cause issues when time is limited while travelling from one zone to the next within a given period. Not to mention when travelling the perimeter. This is when safe, all-terrain and quiet vehicles are needed to transport the events team, important guests and those unable to walk distances. This is also the case when transporting supplies and materials for visitors and exhibitors on-site.
Electric vehicles are perfect in situations where noise needs to be kept to a minimum. As The Royal Norfolk Show is predominantly an agricultural event, the animals on show need to feel safe. Caroline Ellis, one of the event organisers commented on the vehicles: “The electric buggies used on-site were perfect for navigating around our livestock and equine areas. We’ve used similar diesel buggies in the past, however the electric buggies were much quieter when navigating around animal enclosures. Loud vehicles can cause great distress for the animals.”
Caroline continued: “The UTVs during the event days were used for stewards and staff to easily be able to access areas around the showground during as well as pre and post show. Electric Wheels offered great service and we would highly recommend.”
At a busy event with many thousands of visitors wandering the various event hot spots, safety is a must. Meaning vehicles need to be capable of manoeuvring a range of surfaces with the required power, while at a well-maintained and considerate speed. The 4-seater Beast and the 6-seater Rider were used by the Rotarians as part of their public buggy service over the two days. The Nipper was also used by Grand Ring Steward, Stephen Howlett who was celebrating his 50th anniversary as a steward at the event. The rest of the fleet were used for transporting stewards and staff throughout the showground.
